"Better to give than recieve"

The two stories I will be comparing is “Stray” and “Thank You M’am”. The author of “Stray” is Cynthia Rylant. The author of “Thank You M’am” is Langstone Hughes. The stories may have some similarities. They would also have some differences. Their theme may have something in common.

In “Thank You M’am” a boy named Roger tries to steal a bag from a woman named Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones. He fails his mission and fell from the weight of the bag. That bag had almost anything in there. Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones drags the Roger to her house. She teaches Roger a lesson. Before Roger left, Mrs. Luella Bates Washington gave him the money he needed to buy the sneakers he wanted.

In “Stray” a girl named Doris finds a puppy which is a stray on the street. The puppy was freezing. It was so cold it was shivering. Doris took care of the puppy until the snow cleared. On the fateful day, her dad took the puppy to a pound. Doris went to her room sadly and cried herself to sleep. When she woke up, she went outside of her room looking down and gloomy. Then after a while she realized the puppy was here. The dad told her about the pound. He thought it was a horrible place so he took the puppy back.

The theme of the two stories’ theme is about the same. The theme is, “It is better to give than receive”. In the story, Doris gave love to the puppy. Doris cared for it and took care of it. In “Thank You M’am” the women gave money to the boy even when he did something wrong. This is one example of what the stories have in common. One difference is the puppy is good and obedient, while in “Thank You M’am” the boy did something wrong.

The two stories have similarities, especially the theme of the stories. The stories connect to my life in a way. I like giving. I give gifts to people on special occasions. I feel great when I give them gifts. I like to see their expressions. They are usually happy when they receive the gifts.
