Have you ever wanted something that you knew you couldn’t have? Doris form the story Stray wanted an abandon dog she found. Roger from Thank You M’am wanted new suede shoes. Roger tried to steal the money from an old lady on the street. Doris tried to persuade her parents to let her keep the puppy. Both stories talks about kindness, respect, and caring. The theme in both stories is you cannot always get what you want without having to earn it.

In Thank You M’am, Mrs. Jones respected Roger by taking him to her apartment. Mrs. Jones didn’t report Roger to the police. She didn’t jump to conclusions by judging him when he tried to rob her. She asks him why he tried to steal from her and listens to his reasons carefully. Mrs. Jones was kind to Roger by letting him clean himself up. She cared for Roger by giving him food and knew how he felt when he wanted the new suede shoes. So at the end Mrs. Jones gave Roger ten dollars.

In Stray, Doris was kind to the stray she found on the street because instead of leaving it alone on the street, she took the puppy back home. She cared for the puppy by giving her food and a place to live in; she treated the pup as her own. Even the puppy respected Doris. Every time Doris opened the basement doo, she will still see the puppy there. The puppy never followed Doris out of the Doris out of the basement and was never running around.

The theme in both stories is you cannot always get what you want without having to earn it. Both stories talks about people that wants something and had to earn it. I feel this is true because for me I always wanted something I knew my parents won’t be able to get me. So I helped my parents with chores and get what I wanted myself
