Should We All Go Postal?

Should We All Go Postal?

Are violent video games the cause of modern day kid’s anger? Although many people, mainly parents, believe that violent video games are extremely catastrophic for kids, violent video games can be used in more positive ways then people might think, they are used for medical reasons which is amazing to think about, because while parents are fussing about it doctors, psychiatrists etc. are using them for medical reasons.

Many people believe that violent video games can affect a kid negatively; their statement is true a child may see something and may want to replicate the event done. Many games show the killing of human beings which can be offensive to most, games like postal 2 which I've personally played and have experienced the gore and the weird things you can do to humans and animals alike. The 2008 study Grand Theft Childhood reported that 60% of middle school boys that played at least one Mature-rated game hit or beat up someone, compared to 39% of boys that did not play Mature-rated games, The cause for this may be figured out, Researchers at the Indiana University School of Medicine say that brain scans of kids who played a violent video game showed an increase in emotional arousal – and a corresponding decrease of activity in brain areas involved in self-control, inhibition and attention.

The Acceptable Things!

There are many good things about violent video games that parents and adults don’t dare to realize. It’s a good form of socializing and amusement, which is true because when you play games like halo or grand theft auto that have online, kids that may have low self esteem .can get a good score and one of his teammates might complement him and make him feel good about himself. When playing with others, encourages teamwork and cooperation, which is also true because if you’re playing a tactical game like Black Ops or Halo you will need to listen to your teammates to know if they see an enemy or if they need your assistance with some enemies.

Hand-eye co-ordination are improved, my reason that proves this is that when you first play you will not play your best but the longer you play it you’ll get better and recognize the key binding and how to move your hands to do. A recent study has shown that video game improved surgeon's hand-eye coordination enough that it was recommended that surgeons play a specially developed video game before surgery in order to "warm up." The study found that surgeons who played video games for at least three hours a week made 37 percent fewer mistakes and performed the procedure 27 percent faster than those who did not play video games at all.

The Solution?

Both Parents and children should both accede to the others choice, one may love it and the other may not but children should not play the violent video games if the game is too violent. If parents see that their kids are not showing any changes in their attitude or anything else that is noticeable you should let them play. Violent video games can be the cause of violence but people believe they are just for fun on the other hand parents and other adults think it’s a way to learn to apprehend in violence. At the end of the day your parent is your parent and what they say might not be the best for you in your head but it is with good intentions.
